We’re seeing a rise in fraudsters using convincing fake banking apps to trick sellers on Facebook Marketplace.

📱 Criminals are pretending to buy high-value items like mobile phones and electronics, showing what looks like a legitimate bank transfer confirmation on their phone.

💸 But here’s the catch: the money never arrives in the seller’s account.

These apps are designed to mimic real banking interfaces, making it look like payment has been sent. Victims often hand over the item before realising they’ve been scammed.

✅ Protect yourself:

Always check your bank account for cleared funds before handing over any item.

Be cautious of buyers who rush the transaction or insist on showing you a transfer screen.

If in doubt, pause the sale and verify the payment independently.
